"Now that you have your license, you need to be more responsible. Start helping your mother some more." Last nights "chat" with his mother was playing in his head over-and-over again. He had basically walked into it, though. Alphonse had only gotten his license five months ago- and his car three months ago. The minute he walked through the door after work, seeing his mother sitting on the couch, he knew something was up. His mother, the Chief of Medicine at the local hospital, was never home this early.
"Do you remember Dakota Saffron? Bill's daughter?" His eyebrow had lifted at that point. What was mother getting at? Going back into his own memory, he did remember the blond girl. She was a year older than he, and she went to his school. After reminiscing, Alphonse realized what his mother was getting at.
"It's only in the morning, and she doesn't have a car." his mother added. Alphonse rolled his eyes. "If she doesn't have a car, she could take the school bus." he said coolly. His mother glared at him, putting her hands on her hips. "You will do it, and you will be a gentleman to her." his mother told him sternly. He sighed. He had always hated being scolded into doing something. It had always been his mother's method, since well, it worked. Alphonse ran his fingers through his long blond hair. He was tired, hungry, and desperately needed a shower. This was something he didn't want to deal with right now.
"You pick her up tomorrow at seven-thirty." his mother said sternly, before getting up off the couch, and heading off towards her bedroom.
And so here he was, getting into his car, a Ford Focus. It was black, and it still needed a little repair. Alphonse had gotten it at the Car Dealership downtown, and still had five fucking years left of down payment left. He put his head on his steering wheel. What was he about to do? Let some girl into his car? A girl, whom he hasn't really talked to in over five years? If either of them had been interested in keeping their friendship, they would have at least tried to hang out once or twice. Of course, Alphonse hasn't had one friend to even want to do anything outside of school- which was fine with him.
Taking a deep breath, he put the keys in the ignition and pulled out of the drive way.

Dakota got out of the shower hoping her dad left her a note about anything she was suppose to do before and after school. After she got dressed she went into the kitchen to see if there was any note for her and to make herself some toast. Plopping the bread in the toaster she ripped the note off the Refrigerator. “Dakota, this is sudden but your cousin Alphonse got a car and his mother thinks it would be good for him to pick you up in the mornings. He will pick you up tomorrow morning at 7.30. Be prepared.”
Her dad’s hand writing was scribbles so she hoped it said seven-thirty and not one-thirty. This was all fine with her besides the fact she hasn’t talked to him in years. Who knows? He could have become some creeper out to molest girls! It also said “Be prepared ” . What did he mean by that? Inspecting the note she found some numbers. Hoping they were Alphonse’s cell phone number she dialed it.
“Hey, you've reached Alphonse Morbeck at 369-5271. I'm not able to answer my phone at the moment. Probably either got my headphones on, or I don't feel like answering. Well I suppose I should stop rambling so you can go on and leave a message or something. Kay, thanks, bye.”
She was too scared to leave a message, better yet talk to him. At least she had his number now. She programmed it into her phone for a future reference. Who knows, he could turn out to being one of her best friends. Doubting it she put the sticky note in her back pocket.
As 7.30 approached she sat outside on the side walk looking for anyone that she’s possibly seen before. A black car pulled into the drive way. “Sigh…this must be him.” She went to the passenger side opened the door and got in.

Let's see here.. 5622 27th AVE, NS. That's just around the corner. Alphonse thought to himself. Turning around the corner, he heard his phone ring. Fishing it out of his pocket, he realized it was an unknown number and ignored the call. Probably just some kind of telemarketer or something. Hopefully, they would give up and not call back again. He stopped, looking at a blue house. This must be it. Alphonse said to himself. He ran his fingers through his hair, and took a deep breath. What was about to happen? What if she was now a spastic friend of Oliver or something? Or what if she was worse?
Turning into the driveway, Alphonse parked the black car in the driveway, waiting. He decided to wait a minute or two, and than honk if she didn't come out. He flipped out his cell phone, glancing at the time. It was seven-twenty-eight. He was two minutes early, because he didn't know how long it'd take for him to find the place. Taking out his MP3 Player, he plugged it into the car, and Disturbed flooded the car. The blond teen smirked a little. He would bet himself five bucks that she'd hate this kind of music.
A minute went by. Tapping his painted fingernails on the steering wheel to the beat of the song Stricken, he waited. Alphonse looked out the window. The sky had grown dark since he had left the house. The clouds were a dark gray, and probably would storm within twenty minutes or so. Suddenly, there was a large BOOM in the sky, and rain began to fall. Flashes of lightning went across the sky, and an outline of a girl appeared. She quickly got into the car.
Without saying as much as one word, Alphonse started up the ignition, and started out of the driveway. Rain hit the roof of the car hard enough to make a loud pounding noise. I hope this damned rain doesn't do any damage to the car.. he thought to himself. Alphonse ignored the rain, and listened to the beat of Disturbed. After all, he was Down with the Sickness. Listening to the blasting music made him wonder if Dakota liked this kind of music as well. If she didn't, and was anything like Oliver or any of the other popular kids, she'd tell him so, and insult him.
God, he really didn't want to have another one of those to deal with.

The first thing she noticed once she got into the car was him. He looked kind of scary but yet looked like he was nice. It seemed he had a good taste of music considering it was a band she liked. Not her favorite though but still good. His finger nails were painted a dark purple-ish black. Black must be his favorite color…his car was even black... maybe he’s some Gothic freak. His hair was long. Longer than hers and it was a nice tint of gold, she thought it was so beautiful.
The rain continued to pour down making it hard to see outside. Every few minutes you heard BOOM plop plop plop BOOM. It was going to rain hard today. If they canceled school today because of the heavy storm that’s hitting us what would we do? She felt kind of awkward being in a car alone with a boy. Her dad’s never allowed it before. He must really trust Alphonse with me...
A few minutes into the drive neither of them had said anything. Dakota decided to step up and be the first one to say something. “Good morning.. Alphonse I think it is? Haven’t seen you in a few years... how you have been doing?”
There wasn’t much of a reply from him so why not sing to the song that was playing? Maybe annoy him a little, might get some fun out of it if it annoys him. She waited for a song she knew all the lyrics to come on. Monster. Monster by Skillet. Finally a song she knew came on. The secrect side of me, I never let you see. I keep it caged but I can’t control it. So stay away from me, the beast is ugly... After singing that far she kind of got a little look from him. It was more of a few second stare than a look. All she could think of is what he meant by that look… That was the first time he looked at her this whole car ride.

The first thing he noticed about her was her eyes. They were brighter than almost anything he had ever seen. She was wearing just what any teen would wear- jeans and a t-shirt, but her eyes were so.. vibrant. She had long, blond hair. Her hair was shorter, and darker than his, though. Alphonse sighed quietly. He hated the rain- or at least when he was driving. It was slightly dangerous, and a huge pain in the ass as well. Especially when your eyesight is as crappy as his. “Good morning.. Alphonse I think it is? Haven’t seen you in a few years... how you have been doing?” Alphonse didn't turn to look at her- but did reply. "Mhm. And you're Dakota?" he asked. His tone was even, with no emotion. Alphonse didn't feel obligated much more, sense he barely even knew his own cousin. All he knew from this girl was that she was his cousin, his mother and her parents had known each other since they were in High School, and her appearance. She didn't seem shady to him, but Alphonse had a feeling in the pit of his stomach that she was a little nervous around him. Sure, his appearance was.. abnormal.. And he didn't talk too much. And, his music was.. Loud.
But, he was no Oliver. Thank the fucking god for that. That made Alphonse think. One, that maybe she wasn't friends with Oliver and company, and that she didn't know that Alphonse was gay. He shrugged. Why did she have to know? Why would she care? Maybe she was one of the popular freaks. And that was then he heard Dakota singing. She was singing the next song that had come on- Monster by Skillet. He smirked a little. At least she knew something decent. Alphonse himself was almost half-way convinced to sing himself. But of course, he had just re-met this chick. He had no idea what kind of person Dakota really is.
That's when it happened. There was a loud thud. The black car halted, making the two move forward, and might have touched the wind shield, if not for the seat belts. Stepping on the pedal, Alphonse tried to floor it, hoping he wouldn't have to get out and see what was going on with the tires. No go. "God dammit." he muttered. The black car door swung open, and the blond teen, wearing jeans and a black tee-shirt appeared. Ducking down by the tires, Alphonse quickly realized what the problem was. The tires were completely caked in mud, not to mention the front left wheel was in a pot hole.
"Dammit, dammit, dammit!" Alphonse cursed loudly. Standing up again, he was soaked to the bone. Closing the door as he went towards the back of the car, he told Dakota the current situation. "So, it looks like we will be late." Alphonse told her. Maybe I should of start working out more often.. HEAVE! He pushed the car. His converse began to slide on the ground, and the car was absolutely going nowhere. "Goddammit." he fumed. It looks like they were going to be really late.

Yes, it does seem like we will be late… She turned off the ignition with the keys still in place and turned off the music player not wanting to drain the battery and left her stuff in the car knowing that it might get wet. Walking over to inspect the tires and to see what position they were in. Get in the car Alphonse. No response from him but a shake of the head. GET IN THE DAMN CAR ALPHONSE! That was the first time she swore at him. And it was certainly not the last. Following him to the driver door once he got in and settled she told him to put the car in drive and go when she said so.
Going back to the end of the car she found a good area for her hands to push on that wasn’t terribly wet so she wouldn’t slip. Go! Now! After she said that she pushed as hard as she could on the car and he “put the pedal to the medal and the thing to the floor” and the car got out of the mud.
Wiping off her hands on her already-dirty-with-paint jeans she got in the car. Dakota Saffron at your service! You’re lucky you had me here because you’d never had gotten out of there alone. Now, should we go to school or should we skip? It’s pretty late to be arriving at school right now. She just hoped he would say skip. The big test in history was coming up and she heard it was hard. Plus she might be able to learn a little more about him… it’s not like his appearance gave off anything that he liked besides maybe the color black.
The engine started and he started to drive. He didn’t say anything right away about whether we were going to school or not so she just waited. If he was going to say something he will.

She was really starting to get on his nerves. Alphonse had told her to stay in the car- and what did she do? Got out of the car, and told him off. Dakota kept telling him what to do, and yelling at him if he didn't. Thank god he wouldn't have to deal with her more than an an hour a day. If he did, he would actually consider skipping school. Not that he was a complete nerd who would die if they missed one day of school, its just, he didn't like to. Having to call in, and then patch them in with his mother at the hospital to verify. It was even a bigger pain in the ass than dealing with the daily teasing and being called "Allison" from Oliver.
Dakota then went to the back of the car to push. God, his mother was going to kill him if she found out he hadn't insisted pushing the car himself. However, Alphonse would be a tad surprised if she did find out- since Dakota seemed to be the type of girl who takes charge, and most likely wouldn't tell. If she did decide to tell, he'd never hear the end of it from his mother- whom only really seemed to interact with him when it was absolutely necessary. Of course, it made sense since she worked all the time, and he had school & work after school. Their schedules were very different.
After hearing his cousin's command of, "Go, NOW!" Alphonse floored it, and the car was out. Well, that solved one of their problems. There were still two important things that came to his mind still. One, they were still going to be very late, and how were they going to get cleaned up? Alphonse was covered in head-to-toe with mud and completely soaked. The last thing he needed right now was to be dubbed as, "the guy who dresses poorly AND doesn't care if he's dirty." Even though he was dirty, Dakota was worse. She was caked in mud and rain water. There was no way she could go to school like that.
Dakota, sliding into the passengers seat, she said to him: "Dakota Saffron at your service! You’re lucky you had me here because you’d never had gotten out of there alone. Now, should we go to school or should we skip? It’s pretty late to be arriving at school right now." How could she be so enthusiastic? They were soaked, and filthy, not to mention late for school. But, she did have a point. Why bother going now? They'd be mocked, late and still wet. Or at least- he'd be. He didn't have gym today.
He sighed. The answer was obvious. Despite the fact he had a Math Quiz today. He suppose if he skipped, he'd have more time to study for it. Starting the ignition, he started to drive back to Dakota's house. "I suppose it'd be easier to skip. I'll drop you off at your house." he replied. After dropping her off, he'd go back to his house, take a shower and study for the quiz. Then maybe, try to find something to read on Onemanga. They had some interesting stuff. Except for the fact that they kept suggesting manwha and beat for him. That was just annoying.
Alphonse shook his head. He had to focus on the road. Wait, why was she staring at him?

The mud on her clothes wasn’t that bad. It kind of felt like Silly Putty; but dirtier. “Oh well, at least it matches the rest of the crap of paint on my pants...” I guess it doesn’t really matter in a fact that no one cares what she wears or how she acts. Looking at Alphonse, he was a little less dirty than her. There was dirt and mud on his shirt that looked like it was drying from the heat running through the some-what broken heater in the car. The bottom half of his pants was covered in splotches of the muck that the car was stuck in. They both looked funny covered in all the muck. Head to toe covered in mud.
“I suppose it’d be easier to skip. I’ll drop you off at your house.” Yes, something good about the day. This was a nice rainy and dreary day to skip school. The only thing is what would she tell her dad about what happened that day? Her dad had weird times to work; 10p.m-2p.m every day even on weekends. Not good. School got out at 3.30, if he knew she had skipped he would be mad. Worse is that he would more than likely call Alphonse’s parents to tell them he skipped. She would be grounded for the rest of her life until she improved her grades which were average Cs and Bs. What would Alphonse’s parents do to him for skipping school?
She looked at him for a few minutes until she could work up her bravery to ask him a simple question. “Alphonse... Would it be ok if I stayed at your house until school gets out? My dad comes home at two this afternoon and I don’t want us to get in trouble for skipping...That is if you don’t mind having a visitor for a while…”

Though it drove him crazy, Dakota didn't seem to mind the fact that she was caked in mud and rain. Wiping her hands on her paint-splatted jeans, Alphonse began to rethink his suspicions about his cousin. She was too independent to be friends with Oliver and company, not to mention her jeans. They were literally covered in spots of paint. The only thing he could think of was Art Freak. She was an Art Freak. “Oh well, at least it matches the rest of the crap of paint on my pants...” Dakota had said. Well, that pretty much verified it. Unless, she had painted her room several different colours at different times. So that was her rank at school. She was higher ranking, but she wasn't at the top either. Alphonse imagined that it would be a most convenient place to be. Raven seemed to love being one, anyway.
Finally, the rain had stopped coming down in buckets. It was more like, bowls now. It was lighter, and less consistent than before. And it certainly didn't make as much noise on the roof of Alphonse's car either. Alphonse wondered what was going on in first period- which for him, was History. Most likely Karley was giving a lecture and having them take notes. Nothing he couldn't do at home from the book. Surely Karley would have the page numbers on the school website. And if he didn't, Alphonse knew where to look. Hopefully, he wouldn't have to look it up in the book. The 11th Grade History text book was big and heavy- and had over 1000 pages. A pain to look up.
She was looking at him again. Was he really that interesting to look at? Maybe she was just spacing out or something. God knows how many times he had done that before. Though the aftermath of him doing it ended up some girl freaking out, because being the self-centered popular, teenage girl she is, figured that he was checking her out. Alphonse asked slightly rudely, "Can I help you with something?" But to him, it sounded a little more awkward than rude. Either way, Dakota would probably end up embarrassed and say nothing. It wouldn't be the first time, and certainly not the last that that has happened to him.
“Alphonse... Would it be ok if I stayed at your house until school gets out? My dad comes home at two this afternoon and I don’t want us to get in trouble for skipping...That is if you don’t mind having a visitor for a while…” The question had surprised him. Alphonse hadn't had a visitor over in years. In fact, she was probably the last one to visit. With his mother's busy schedule, they didn't tend to have too many guests come to visit/stay for awhile, much less an entire day. Thinking about Dakota's question, he knew that he couldn't refuse. As distant as they were, they were family. And again, if his mother found out, she'd kick his ass for not letting her, and for not telling her.
He sighed. Alphonse's plans of taking a shower and studying were now ruined. He'd have to hang out down stairs. Wet and gross for an hour while she took a shower and got dressed. Then he'd do the same, and he'd have to keep her busy with something while he tried to study/slash read. Then drop her off at about four. Yay, so much for having a day to be alone. But now, instead he'd be stuck in the house with his older, female cousin, who he barely knew anything about. And, she didn't know much about him either. He'd have to be wary of her.
After spending a minute in his head, Alphonse replied to Dakota's question with a one word. "Fine." And to be honest, she could interprit that the anyway she wanted to. Alphonse didn't really care.

She had to wait a few minutes or a answer. It took him a few minutes to reply. "Fine." She was happy he let her come over to his house. His answer sounded very quiet though. It was very emotionless; almost like he didn't care whether she was there or not.
The car ride after that was quiet. He didn't turn the music back on for the rest of the car ride. It took 20 minutes to get by his house. He lived in what seemed like in the middle of no-where. There wasn't many houses the were around. There were few houses and they seemed decent sized. Not big like mansions but not small like huts. Soon after we passed a sign that said. 27th Drive, SN. We drove a few houses down and then we pulled into his driveway. The house was a dark mint green color.
They got out of the car and entered the house. It was very quiet, almost like no one had been there for a few house or maybe even a day. It was a little messy in the house like they didn't have much time to clean. It made her wonder if his parents had a busy schedule or not. If they didn't why weren't they home?
Dakota was very glad he let her stay over. Was he just doing this because of his parents rules? Or out of the kindness of his heart. Does he even have kindness in his heart? To her he seemed so lonely and quiet. If there was any kindness in there she would be a little surprised because he didn't show a lot or any emotion besides the grin he gave her earlier that day. Thank you for letting me stay over for a while...sorry if this causes any trouble for you..

The rest of the ride back to his house was awkward and silent. It was a tad odd, since it seemed Dakota was one of those people who enjoyed a nice and long conversation. The drive itself seemed to last forever, and finally when the last turn was made and he pulled up to his house. It was one of the biggest houses on the block. His mother was wealthy middle class, plus his grandparents were loaded. Alphonse's mother had picked this house because she thought it had "character". It was older, built in the forties. It was somewhat of a victorian style- despite the fact that the style had been out of style for over eighty years. Apparently the person who originally built it liked the style. To him- it didn't really matter.
What did bother him about the house was the colour. His mother had it painted, though there was an error with the colours, and it turned out a dark minty green colour, instead of the intended colour, just a regular blue. And after the mistake had happened, his mother had decided that they would repaint it themselves, as unrealistic it truly was. That had been over six years ago now. And so the process of getting out of his car began. First, by unplugging his MP3 player, followed by grabbing his phone and school bag. Then finally getting himself out of the car. Pulling out his keys, he opened up the door, and motioned for Dakota to follow him inside.
The first thing she did when she entered the house was stare. Alphonse frowned. It wasn't that bad, was it? He was pretty good with keeping up with the laundry and the dishes. But, that didn't keep him from having CD's, manga and wrappers all around the house. Turning to look at Dakota, it seemed she was thinking to herself again. Was he really that interesting? Or was she trying to remember being here? Alphonse couldn't ever really remember the girl being at his house- even when they were little. In fact, the only memories he had of the Art Freak were of her running around and him sitting alone. Its like even then, they were the same.
"Thank you for letting me stay over for a while...sorry if this causes any trouble for you.." Alphonse shrugged. "Its fine. Mom doesn't technically get off 'till eight anyway." he replied. He gave her a dismissing wave, and threw his backpack on a nearby love seat. He then headed off towards the quite open kitchen, and had a glass of water. His throat was dry, and the water temporarily kept it wet. After putting the glass in the sink, he pointed upstairs. "My mom's bedroom is on the left, there is a bathroom in there." he told her. "When you're done, I can throw your clothes in the washing machine. You can borrow my mom's clothes." he added. With that, Alphonse then walked up the stairs, disappearing to the right into his own room.

She watched him walk up the stairs. Guessing he's going to his room to change clothes and maybe take a shower if there's a shower up there besides the on in his moms room. She walked up the stairs too to see bunches of manga laying on the floor. Stepping over the manga she walked to his mothers room and picked out some clothes to wear. She found a red shirt and some shorts. She went to the shower and washed off and put on Mrs.Morbecks clothes. She started getting the feeling that his parents were divorced or don't live together. How sad it would be. Is that why he doesn't show much emotion? Maybe he's so sad because of it it might have made him depressed.
She went down stairs with her clothes dried with mud that was starting to crack and decided to look around the house. The lighting in the house was fairly dim, kind of matching his personality, semi darkish and maybe mean. Not totally sure if he's mean or not yet be he could be. To the right was the kitchen, it was a pretty basic kitchen. A old dirty stove sat in one of the corners with a refrigerator and a few counters and a pantry. One of the counters had a sink connected to it; the sink was weirdly empty. It seems like they keep up with the dishes here.. Dakota had never seen a sink that clean. She walked into the dinning room to find a small table and 3 chairs.. the only thing was one chair was sitting on the other side of the room. Why is that chair over there.. wouldn't they all be at the table so him and his parents can all eat together? There was no other rooms to go into on the floor that she was on so she walked back to the entrance/living room.
Sitting down on one on the chairs in the living room she saw a wet Alphonse is new clothes walk down the steps. "Thanks for letting me use the shower and borrowing your moms clothes... I feel like you've done so much for me and I haven't done really anything for you. I wish I could make it up to you some time. Hopefully I will some day.."

Shutting his door closed, Alphonse quickly stripped down and threw his clothes in the hamper and headed into the shower. Turning on the shower, the mud started to slide off his skin, and his hair. Oh god, the mud had splattered all over his hair.. Grabbing the shampoo bottle, he lathered it in his hair, and white coloured soap began to wash out. Leaning against the wall, he had to plan he was going to do once he got out of the shower. The blond teen knew he would have to go down stairs and talk to her. Not that he hated or disliked Dakota, it was just that he didn't know what to say. Both of them had questions about the other- but what? Alphonse didn't want to be the first to act. However, he knew that one of them would have to, otherwise it would be a very uncomfortable six hours.
Now that the shampoo had rinsed out, he just needed to use the conditioner. Alphonse lathered in the transparent soap, and soon washed out the soap. After letting everything rinse out, he squeezed out the most of the water. Alphonse grabbed a towel of the rack next to the shower, and wrapped it around his waist. Heading back into his room, he quickly put on pants. No need for any more awkward moments. Choosing a Disturbed t-shirt, he grabbed his dirty clothes, and his towel, and headed down stairs. The towel was sort-of helping drying his long hair. Though he may actually have to put his hair in a pony. Alphonse shivered. He always hated putting his hair up.
"Thanks for letting me use the shower and borrowing your moms clothes... I feel like you've done so much for me and I haven't done really anything for you. I wish I could make it up to you some time. Hopefully I will some day.." Dakota had said. Alphonse was about to respond, but unfortunately, he was not the most graceful person in the world. Tripping over his own foot, Alphonse fell down the stairs. First on his face, and then it was mostly just tumbling and falling. Oh god, his back. It fuckin' hurt. "Goddammit!" he muttered. Other than his back, nothing was hurt, nor broken. Thank god. He would have to go to the hospital.. Where his mother was the fucking Chief of Medicine.. How would he explain that not only had he and Dakota skipped, but she was at their house. At least I don't have to worry about her thinking that I took advantage of her or something ridiculous like that. Alphonse thought to himself.
After standing up, and cracking his own back, Alphonse grabbed his clothes and wet towel, and headed downstairs. While downstairs, he grabbed his cousin's clothes, and threw them in the dryer. He winced, realizing that Dakota's bra had fallen out of the pile. Oh shit. What should I do? Pick it up, or ask Dakota to come and pick it up? he asked himself. Alphonse swallowed, and bent down to pick it up, and quickly threw it in the dryer. God, I hope I never have to touch one of those again.. he added. Quickly slamming the door shut, he dropped his own clothes in the washer, and started the wash.
Heading back up stairs, Alphonse clapped his hands together, and sighed. "Okay, so who wants coffee?" he asked.

Dakota watched as Alphonse walked down the stairs. He surely wasn’t the most graceful boy in the world. He tripped and fell head first down the last few stairs. She heard him mutter ”Goddammit” She thought it was funny how he tripped down the stairs. She was so close to laughing at him but she stopped it before she could because she thought it would be rude; she was at her cousins house anyways. He wore new clean clothes of a Disturbed tee and a pair of pants that looked almost exactly like the last pair of pants that he wore earlier today. A dark tan-ish black cargo pants. Those pants look nice on him but what would be really interesting is if he had a pair on skinny jeans!
He came over and took her clothes from her and took them down stairs. The laundry room must be in the basement. I didn’t explore down there yet. Maybe exploring the basement would be for another visit; that is if there will be another visit. Dakota felt bad that Alphonse was like doing everything for her. Maybe he thought she was some girl that had everything and didn’t have to do anything. She hoped he didn’t think that of her.
He came back up the stairs looking a little disgusted. He walked over by her and clapped his hands together. He clapped so it made him look like Ed from Full Metal Alchemist. Is he trying to do Alchemy or something?! She thought it was funny but didn’t want to tell him in case he didn’t know what Full Metal Alchemist was or if he was offended by it. ”Okay, so who wants coffee?” That sounded like a cheesy line from a movie but it was okay. At least he was trying to talk to her and not ignore her the whole time. Hopefully this won’t be as awkward as the car ride to the house. “Sure, coffee could be nice. Can I help make it?” She wanted to help him do something for once to make herself feel like he hasn’t been doing everything.

She looked at him like he was some sort of weirdo. Dakota had smiled at him, as if she was trying to hold back a laugh. Alphonse had felt a little bad for not really saying much to her previously. Of course, she must of realized by now that it had been, and still most likely, very awkward. But hopefully now that they were both clean, things would be a tad better. Cracking his fingers, he looked at his cousin. Well, at least she wasn't staring at him or the house anymore- as if it were some kind of freak show. Alphonse knew she most likely didn't mean it that way, but it was impolite to stare, right? Plus, it kind of creeped him out. He really wasn't that interesting of a person. His appearance was just misleading.
“Sure, coffee could be nice. Can I help make it?” Alphonse shrugged. "Mhm." he replied casually. To be honest, he really didn't care. It didn't take much to make coffee- so why did she want to help anyway? She was at someone elses house, so shouldn't she be just relaxing while the host did all of the work. The blond teen frowned a little. That sounded like a lot of work. Work that he really didn't feel like doing now. Especially now with his back. He rubbed it a little. This wasn't supposed to happen until he was old, right? It wasn't fair.
Things finally seemed to be lightening up. Alphonse no longer felt like he did at school, and most of the time at work. Dakota was probably one of the only kids from school who actually had talked to him for more than five minutes, who didn't seem to be repulsed by him. And what was even more surprising, was that she hadn't said one mean thing to him- yet. There was still the possibility that she could turn out to be shallower than Annika, and would tell about all of this to Oliver. Though she was nice, he still had to be wary.. Still.
Leading her to the kitchen, Alphonse headed over to one of the cherry wood cupboard, and pulled out a tin of Expresso. He hoped Dakota liked expresso, because it was the only kind he liked, and had. His mom could buy other kinds if she wanted to, and actually did more at the house than sleep and have "serious talks" with Alphonse. Other than that, he would be lucky to actually see his mother awake more than three times a week. Not that he really needed to. Alphonse had basically been taking care of himself since he was twelve. He still didn't pay the bills though, which, he did have to give his mother credit for.
"I hope you like expresso." Alphonse said. "Because that's all I have."
Getting out the coffee machine, he poured in a few tablespoons of coffee powder and added the water. Plugging the plug-in into the wall, he watched as the coffee machine began to heat up. It would be about twenty minutes before it would be ready. While that would mean that he would probably have to talk to his cousin, it was worth it. Coffee was always better when it was made this way. It sure beat heating up the water in the microwave. Not wanting to stand the entire time, or sit, Alphonse made his way over to the living room, which was only across the hall.
Leaning on the longer couch, he let himself fall over. He squirmed, trying to get his head on the throw pillow, hoping that laying down would help his back a little. Alphonse was almost as tall as the couch, and so his naked feet rested perfectly on the soft arm of the other side of the couch. All he would need now was some alieve and he'd be out. But, the blond teen couldn't leave Dakota the only one awake. Besides, he wanted some of that coffee. With some sugar and cream, it was freakin' awesome.
And also, she looked like she was more than curious about a few things.
